Using the painting "Next Steps" (The soul calls and I follow) I would like to explain to you the meaning of light/dark tones in painting.
On the left you can see the picture at a stage where I was wondering if it was finished. But I wasn't really sure. I then look at a black and white photograph of the picture (in the middle) and the light and dark values of the colors that can then be seen.
When it comes to colors, the eye first notices the light/dark value. On the black and white photo I can see whether the image has enough contrast. Then I worked on it again.
